Oct 21, 2009 · Vacuum vessels are similar to, but not the same as pressure vessels. The primary difference is that the design is for external pressure. ASME SecXIII and ASME SecI both address components subject to external pressure, and Sec XIII, and some other sections, specifically address vacuum components and systems, but I don't recall anything specifically addressing vacuum receiveres.

Boilers and pressure vessels are sealed vessels used to hold liquids or gases under pressure.Although theoretically they can be made into any shape, pressure vessels are usually made into spheres, cylinders or domes. In other words, most pressure vessels are cylindrical, with a 2:1 semi-elliptical heads or end cap at each end.. Smaller boilers and pressure vessels are made of pipes with end

Inspector—An inspector commissioned by the Department to field-inspect boilers or unfired pressure vessels in this Commonwealth. Lap seam crack—A crack found in a lap seam, extending parallel to the lon-gitudinal joint and located between or adjacent to rivet holes.

A pressure vessel is a closed container designed to hold gases or liquids at a pressure substantially higher or lower than the ambient pressure. Examples include glassware, autoclaves, compressed gas cylinders, compressors (including refrigeration), vacuum chambers and custom designed laboratory vessels. Pressure vessels, autoclaves and steam sterilizers operating at pressures greater than 15 …
